Storytime crafts - A bird's nest

This week we chose ' The mountain that loved a bird' for our story time - reading and crafts session ( by   Stephen Aitken. A remarkable book with a profound message and joyful illustrations. Equally enthralling for children and adults alike. It is a little long to do as read aloud maybe for the 4 or 5 year olds, but the sweetness of the tale and the excellent illustrations makes up for that. In addition one could simplify the story for them. The session also helped us to discuss related topics like the mountains we visited, growing plants, insects, birds and nests, springtime, friendship and more...

As we reached the end of the story the first craft idea that came up was - making a nest!
Out into the courtyard we rushed and found some twigs......... and the rest is here in pictures!

Durga Puja and Dussehra

Happy Durga Puja and Dussehra to all!
For all our readers who love madhubani art, here is our Goddess Durga in madhubani style of painting.

As the children delve into the interesting Dussehra and Durga Puja activities, here are some of the activities we enjoyed doing during the festive break.
Easy drawing and coloring/ painting Goddess Durga and Ravana. Making a shield and sword using cardboard.Making bow and arrows using cardboard and paper.Learning to make Rangolis. It was pretty easy to draw 'Ravana' with his ten heads. We first made a large 'U' added ears to it and continued till we counted ten heads. Adding the crown and the details on the face completes the heads. Then make the body and the flames and it is time for some colouring.
Now for some artworks created by 5 to 9 year olds during this session.

Have fun this festive season and enjoy creating!
